CCTV Drain Survey
A drain camera is most useful when it answers a specific question: why does this drain keep failing, what condition is the pipe in, or where exactly is the defect?
What a camera can show
- open or displaced joints
- fractures and cracks
- root ingress
- deformation
- obstructions and deposits
- standing water
- intruding connections
- areas where a pipe has partially or completely collapsed
What a camera picture cannot tell you on its own
A minor joint opening on screen does not automatically explain the blockage. The important question is whether the defect is interrupting flow, allowing roots in, losing material to the ground or repeatedly catching solids.
A camera needs a reasonably clear pipe
A camera travelling through dirty water or heavy grease cannot show the pipe wall properly. For recurring blockages, cleaning followed by CCTV is often more informative than pushing the camera into a still-obstructed pipe.
What you should be able to tell from the report
A useful survey should identify the section being inspected, the direction of travel, significant defects and their approximate position from a known access point. Video without location can be difficult to act on because a contractor still has to work out where beneath the garden, drive or building the defect sits.
Where repair is proposed, ask which finding is driving that recommendation. A report is more useful when it distinguishes a harmless imperfection from a defect that is obstructing flow, admitting roots or allowing leakage.
